On my whopping 23 mile run this past Saturday, I thought about the goal I set in April of 2016 — qualify for Boston. That goal had a built in goal behind it — once you qualify, run Boston.
And so, here we are, a month away from the 2018 Boston Marathon. Thousands and thousands of other runners set very similar goals. Some have been chasing down the goal to run Boston for years. On April 16, 2018, we’ll all be together. Living this dream we created.
Yesterday, I received the 2018 Boston Marathon Participant Guide. Let’s just say, things got real. I opened it up to the most positive, uplifting words:
What we create here, runs forever.
The Boston Marathon is taking ownership of creating the following:
PRIDE
WINS
PERSONAL RECORDS
NOISE
SUPPORT
ENERGY
It is creating a moment for Boston. For the world.
Now, if that doesn’t get you hyphie, I don’t know what will.
What are you here to create?
I came home for lunch today and caught a glimpse of the the open pamphlet on the coffee table — HERE TO CREATE — staring back at me. What am I creating? I’m creating this blog, a career, a set of running goals stacked one on top of the other. I’m creating friendships in a new city, recipes in my kitchen, positive, encouraging messages to share with you.
What are YOU creating? What do you WANT to create??
Running the Boston Marathon is the fruit of seeds I planted two years ago. When I stand at the start line with my coach-cousin, Allen Baddour, at 10:35 a.m. on April 16, 2018, I can say, “I created this moment.”
Take ownership! You can create moments. You can create wins and personal records, energy and noise. You can create ANYTHING you want. All you have to do is decide — what are you here to create? And then DO IT.
See you out there.
