I bring you Chasing Helen’s very first giveaway! I’ve partnered with my favorites Beautycounter AND Fit Atelier. Let me tell you what, they hooked it up! All you have to do is follow the steps below and you will be entered to win a Beautycounter charcoal mask + charcoal soap bar + $25 gift certificate AND a Fit Atelier tank top + $25 gift certificate AND a tub of my favorite plant based protein powder Vega One French Vanilla that I threw in for good measure.
First, let me tell you about the goodies.
The charcoal face mask and soap bar included in this giveaway are game changers. I use the charcoal soap as a daily facial cleanser. The face mask I use at least three, upwards of five times per week.
I know what you’re thinking: Chasing Helen is about fitness, running, eating well… what’s Helen doing partnering with a beauty products company?
Ohhhh, my friends. So glad you asked!
This is my chance to share some important information with you. I’m excited for you to enter the giveaway, but since you’re already here, why not learn something you might not have known?!
“The reality is that most people don’t know what’s in the products they’re putting on their skin every day. We workout, we eat healthy foods, but then many of us unknowingly cover our bodies in questionable or harmful ingredients.”
– Gregg Renfrew, founder of Beautycounter
Chasing Helen is about chasing yourself, mainly, your overall health. Do I want you to exercise and eat healthy? Yes. Do I want you to set high goals and chase them down? Absolutely. But I care about you beyond diet and exercise.
Ingredients are important. Knowing the ingredients in the products you put on your body is equally as important as knowing the ingredients you put in your body. You know how I emphasize about reading the ingredients of the food you consume? Well, have you ever read the ingredients of your facewash? What about your shaving cream or shampoo? Don’t even get me started with makeup!
Y’all, here are the facts: our government has not passed a major federal law to regulate the safety of ingredients used in personal care products since 1938. Yep… you read that year correctly… 1938. This means that companies can pack products with harmful ingredients, banned in many other countries, linked to cancer, reproductive issues and hormone disruption, and place them directly in the hands of consumers without any repercussions. I’m not standing on top of a soap box typing this, trust me. But I have a hunch that you, like me, had little to no clue about this.
Once I learned that harmful ingredients such as sulfate, parabens, triclosan are included in the ingredients of liquid soaps, shampoos, body washes and makeup, I found myself standing in the shower, reading the labels on all of my products thinking damn, what am I doing?!
Three years ago, my now good friend, Ihrie Wood, walked into my apartment with a makeup bag full of skin care products and said, “Here, try these for a few days and let me know what you think!”
They had a big “B” for “Beautycounter” written all over the bottles. I loved them.
After one use of the anti-aging face wash, toner pads, serum and moisturizer, my face looked and felt like I just left the spa. I woke up the next morning, used the products again and felt a radiating glow all day. I bought a few products. A few months later, I bought some makeup – blush, under eye concealer and mascara. Then came the luscious charcoal facial mask and soap bar – my two favorite products. Next thing I know, my entire cabinet is full of Beautycounter. I can see and feel the difference.
Check out my latest favorites:
Let me be clear. Beautycounter is not the only line of safe products out there. But the safety + quality of Beautycounter products is why I keep going back. It’s good stuff.
I’m not telling you to throw out everything in your bathroom this evening. But I am encouraging you to download the app EWG’s Healthy Living. With this app, you can scan the barcode on your products and check their safety ratings. Anything over a 4 or 5 is something you should strongly consider throwing in the trash.
I know a few men read Chasing Helen. So listen up. Just because you use fewer products than women do, does not mean they are safe. I care about you too! There are Beautycounter products for men. In fact, the charcoal soap bar is a good start.
Beautycounter has banned the use of more than 1,500 questionable or harmful chemicals through their “Never List.” So, in addition to downloading and using the app, you can compare the Never List to the ingredients in your products at home.

If you follow me on Instagram, you are well aware that I have a new obsession with a certain fitness clothing store in Charlotte. Brit and Melanie Morton, the coolest, sweetest sisters in town, opened their doors to Fit Atelier in Dilworth this past summer.
Fit Atelier carries a variety of chic brands such as Michi, Varley, L’urv and much more. Here’s a taste:
Just bought this duo last week:
These clothes are not only high quality, but make me feel extremely stylish walking into Harris Teeter on a Sunday afternoon. I wear them to run, to barre class, to the grocery store and even out at night. Very versatile.
You can shop online here.
OR if you’re local to Charlotte, pop into the store located at 310 East Blvd. AND, please join us on Tuesday nights at 6:30 for the run club I’m leading from the store through the beautiful Dilworth (we usually run about 3 miles).
BONUS: I’m hosting a Beautycounter pop-up @ Fit Atelier this coming Thursday, Oct. 26 from 5:30 to 7 p.m. If you’re in town, please come and bring friends!
Many have asked me about protein powders. I am not an expert. All I know is that whey protein (a component of milk protein) literally weighs me down. It makes me feel too full and a little bloated. Same goes for collagen protein, unfortunately. I’m still quite open to various protein powders, but so far the best kind for me is plant based.
Vega One is packed with 20 grams of protein from peas, leafy greens, green algae and vegetables. One serving is at least half of your daily value of 12 vitamins and minerals. It also has 6 grams of fiber, antioxidants, probiotics and only 1 gram of sugar (no sugar added, this is natural sugar from the greens). I blend it with half a frozen banana, almond milk and any other veggie or fruits in the fridge. This is my breakfast pretty much every weekday morning. Lots of flavor options, but French Vanilla is my tried and true.
Okay, enough gabbing. Now, for the main event…
